Would you like to visit a site that is usually inaccessible from Italy? Do you often find yourself connected to public Wi-Fi networks and are afraid that someone might intercept your data? There is no doubt: you need a VPN. If I have never heard of it, a VPN (an acronym for Virtual Private Network) is a network that keeps private some information that usually travels between our devices (e.g., computer, smartphone, or tablet), the modems we use to access the Internet and the providers that provide us with the connection to the Network. By using it, we can hide our data from prying eyes, disguise our IP address (i.e., the address that is assigned to our devices on the Network), and bypass the regional restrictions applied by some websites (making them believe that we are connecting from a country other than the one in which we are located).
What? Unlike what you might believe, using a VPN is an effortless operation and within everyone’s reach: turn to the right solutions. For example, Panda VPN offers a multi-platform system (compatible with computers, smartphones, and tablets) thanks to protecting your online privacy, safely browse any Wi-Fi network (including public ones), and access sites that are usually blocked in your country of residence. It also includes an antivirus, all downloadable in a freeway. It also does not require complicated configurations: to use it, click on a button and wait a few seconds to connect to the private network to be established.
Would you like to know more? Well, then take five minutes of free time and let me tell you more about Panda VPN, its most essential features, and all the steps necessary to use it on all your devices: I assure you that you will be amazed by the simplicity with which you will be able to do everything and secure your internet connection. Have a good read and, above all, have fun!
What is a VPN, and what it is for
Before getting into the heart of this tutorial and explaining how Panda VPN works, I would like to take a small step back and clarify what a VPN is and what it can be used for.
As already mentioned in the opening of the post, a VPN is a network that, taking advantage of the tunneling technique, connects several nodes, that is, different computers, smartphones, tablets, etc. on the Internet, making all the information circulating inside private and allowing access only to authorized users. This will enable you to disguise your connection and keep your data away from prying eyes (which can be, for example, the eyes of cybercriminals or those of government authorities of specific regimes).
In other words, if we imagine the Internet as a vast virtual highway, a VPN is a kind of private access tunnel that allows those who cross it (in this case, our computers, smartphones, and tablets) to hide from the eyes of that outside. All without any effort and without slowing down of one’s “journey,” that is the Internet connection.
Once this fundamental concept has been clarified, let’s move on to the crux of the matter: what can a VPN be used for? Let me explain right away. Let’s take some practical examples. You are using a VPN; you can. Because VPNs disguise the identity of devices that are part of them and protect all the information circulating within them, you can leverage it to secure communications on potentially insecure networks, disguise your actual IP address, and “trick” sites with geographical restrictions (making them believe that you are connecting from countries other than the ones you are currently in).; you.
- Connect to public Wi-Fi networks without risking someone intercepting your data. Although public networks remain the “hunting ground” preferred by cybercriminals, you can hide your data using a VPN, and all the information exchanged during your browsing session.
- Connect to sites and access online content that is usually blocked in your country. VPNs disguise the device’s IP address by making the outside world believe that the connection comes from a particular country (i.e., the country where the VPN resides) rather than from the country where the user is located.
- Work remotely from your home computer and access systems in the office without compromising the security of data transferred during the connection.
- Make online purchases even more securely, preventing sensitive data such as credit card numbers, bank details, etc., from being intercepted by potential attackers.
The list could go on for a long time to come. In any case, you should now be quite clear about the concept of VPN, and you should have understood quite well the advantages that can come from using such a solution: it is, therefore, time to talk in more detail about Panda VPN.
Minimum requirements for Panda VPN
Before you find out how Panda VPN works, make sure your computer, smartphone, and tablet are compatible with the product in question. Below I’ll show you the software requirements needed to run Panda VPN on the various devices with which it is compatible.
- PC – Panda VPN requires Windows 7 SP1 or later and the .Net Framework software installed on your computer. If you haven’t installed the .Net Framework software, you can download it for free from the Microsoft website.
- Mac – at the time of writing, Panda VPN is not yet available for macOS. In any case, the Mac version of the software is coming and will require macOS 10.9.5 or later to work.
- Android devices – to use the Panda VPN app on Android, you need a smartphone or tablet equipped with Android 4.0.3 or a later version of google’s home operating system.
- iPhone/iPad – at the time of writing, the Panda VPN app is not yet available on iOS. In any case, it should arrive soon and will be compatible with all devices equipped with iOS 8 or later.
Panda VPN Features and Pricing
As mentioned above, Panda VPN can be downloaded and used for free but with limitations. Going into more detail, the free version of the service offers 150MB of traffic per day and does not allow you to choose the nationality of the VPN to use: the VPN closest geographically to your actual location is automatically selected.
To eliminate the traffic limit and freely choose the nationality of the VPN to use, you must subscribe to Panda VPN Premium by choosing from one of the following plans.
- Monthly subscription – 7.99 euros/month.
- Annual subscription – 71.24 euros/year (on offer compared to 94.99 euros of the standard price).
Both solutions provide automatic renewal at the end of the subscription period but offer the possibility of cancellation at any time at no cost.
It should also be noted that Panda VPN is part of two more complete software: on PC, it is part of Panda Dome, which inside also includes an antivirus, a tool for locating lost devices, and a means to create a recovery kit on a USB helpful stick to “cleanse” the system of malware. On Android, however, it is part of Panda Mobile Security, which includes antivirus, anti-theft, and a privacy control utility.
Panda Dome and Panda Mobile Security are also accessible but offer more features if you subscribe to a paid plan starting, respectively, from 26.24 euros/month and 4.89 euros/year. If you need more information about it, check out panda dome’s official website and Panda Mobile Security’s website.
How to use Panda VPN on PC
Now you know what VPNs are and why it’s essential to use them, so let’s move on to the practical side of the matter and see, together, how to use Panda VPN.
To download the accessible version of Panda Dome (the program that contains Panda’s antivirus and free VPN) to your PC, connect to the official product website and click on the Free Download button located in the center of the page. When you’re done downloading, start the PANDAVPN executable.exe you just got, and in the window that opens, first click the Yes button and then click Next.
Then choose whether to install Panda Safe Web with additional security and identity protection tools, set Panda Safe Web as the default search provider in the browser, and whether to set Panda Safe Web as the default home page by keeping or removing check marks from the appropriate boxes, and click the Accept and Install button to start downloading all the files necessary for Panda VPN to work.
When the download is complete, the program will be installed automatically. You will then have to click on the Finish button to close the window or on the Open Now button to start the software.
Once you start Panda Dome (which you can find on the Start menu and windows desktop), you have to wait a few seconds for the program to be prepared for the first run; You need to create a free account to use the latter (as long as you don’t already have one, in that case, you will have to do nothing but log in by entering your email address and password of your Panda account).
In the window that opens, type then your email address and click the Continue button. After that, access your email inbox, open the message you received from Panda Security, and click the Activate your account button.
You will be proposals a web page with, in the center, a form in which you will have to type in the password to use to access your Panda account and, consequently, to Panda Dome: the password must be at least six characters long and must contain at least one number and one letter.
Then type the keyword you intend to use in the Password and Password Confirmation fields. Ensure that your country of residence is selected in the Country drop-down menu (e.g., Italy), and click the Activate Account button to activate your Panda account.
After activating your account, you will be asked to fill out a form with your data: name, surname, date of birth, phone number, address, and state/region of residence. You can choose whether to proceed immediately, filling in the fields in question, or later, by clicking on the Not Now button at the bottom of the page.
Perfect: Now you can go back to Panda Dome and click on the Continue button to log in to your account and start using the program that, as mentioned above, includes Panda’s free antivirus, VPN, and other valuable features, such as locating lost devices (on which Panda’s anti-theft software must be installed in advance) and creating a recovery kit to “clean up” an infected PC via USB stick.
To use Panda’s VPN, click the VPN button in the Panda Dome main window. After that, if you are using the free version of the program, make sure that we are selected the Automatic option in the Virtual Server drop-down menu (as you cannot manually choose the nationality of the server to connect to, this possibility is reserved for users of the Premium version of Panda VPN), that the data usage counter has not “overrun” the 150MB (daily traffic available for free users) and click on the Connect button.
At this point, wait a few seconds, and the VPN should come into operation: to notify you that you have been connected to the private Network will appear the icon Connected in the center of the Panda Dome window (within parentheses the name of the country of the server used for the VPN).
To verify that you have connected to the VPN, open the browser that you usually use to browse the Internet (e.g., Chrome) and join an IP address verification service, such as WhatIsMyIP.com.
If the VPN is working correctly, your IP address will be different from the real one. Also, it should correspond to a different geographic location than the one you’re actually in (unless your site matches that of the server used by Panda VPN!).
After this further verification, all you have to do is open your favorite browser and browse the web safely, thanks to Panda’s VPN. You don’t have to make any configurations or install any add-ons: everything works automatically regardless of the browser you use.
Once you’re done browsing with Panda VPN, disconnect from your private Network, open Panda Dome, click the VPN button first, and then the Sign Out button.
If you realize you need more traffic than the 150MB/day provided by Panda VPN’s free plan and would like to be able to select the nationality of the servers to connect to, consider subscribing to a Premium subscription.
To activate a Premium Panda VPN subscription, start Panda Dome and click first on the VPN button and then on the Update to Premium button. On the screen that opens, choose whether to subscribe to a monthly subscription for 7.99 euros/month or an annual subscription for 71.24 euros (on offer compared to 94.99 euros of the standard price) and press on the Go to checkout button.
Now, enter your data (name, surname, email address, ZIP code, and country of residence) in the form placed on the left, choose a payment method between credit card and PayPal, type the relevant data in the form placed on the right and click on the Next button.
Then verify that the information you entered is all correct. If successful, complete the transaction by checking next to the Confirm subscription entry and pressing on the Buy Now button.
Both the monthly subscription and the annual Panda VPN Premium subscription provide automatic renewal, but you can deactivate it at any time through the management panel of your Panda account.
To manage your Panda VPN subscription (and possibly turn off automatic subscription renewal), connect to Panda’s website and log in to your account or click on the man icon at the top right of the Panda Dome main window and select the Personal Products item from the menu that opens.
For more information about Panda Dome and Panda VPN for PC, check out the program’s official website.
How to use Panda VPN on smartphones and tablets
Includes an antivirus, VPN, and other valuable tools, such as anti-theft and privacy control utility. Panda VPN is also available in the form of a mobile application. To install it on your Android smartphone or tablet, open the Play Store (the icon with the colored play symbol located on the home screen), search for “panda antivirus” in the search field at the top, and send it by pressing on the magnifying glass icon.
On the search results screen, locate panda security’s free Antivirus and VPN app preview card, press on it, and proceed to install it by tapping on the Install button. If you are reading this tutorial directly from Android, you can open the Play Store page dedicated to Panda VPN by visiting this link.
At this point, your device is already protected against malware, and every new app installed on Android will be automatically controlled by Panda Mobile Security. If you want to start a “manual” scan of apps already installed on your device, tap on the Analyze Now button on the app’s home screen and wait for the operation to succeed.
Now it’s time to take action and turn on VPN-protected browsing. To use Panda VPN on Android, press on the burger icon located at the top left of the Panda Mobile Security home screen and select the VPN item from the menu that appears on the screen.
At this point, if you are using the free version of the service, make sure that in the Virtual Server drop-down menu, we are selected the Automatic option (the accessible version of Panda VPN does not allow you to choose the nationality of the server to connect to), check that the data usage counter has not “exceeded” the daily limit of 150MB and pajamas on the Connect button.
On first use, to connect to the Panda Mobile Security VPN, you will need to give the application special permission: answer, therefore, in the affirmative, the warning that appears on the screen (pressing on the OK button ) and wait a few seconds for the connection to the protected network to be established. If you connect, you’ll be flagged by the sign-in at the top.
To test the VPN’s proper functioning, open the browser that you usually use to browse the Internet (e.g., Chrome) and connect to a site for IP address verification, such as whatismyip.com. If the VPN is working correctly, your IP address will be different from the real one, as will your geographic location (unless it matches the server’s location used by the VPN).
At the end of your secure browsing session, to disconnect from the VPN, all you have to do is start Panda Mobile Security, go to the VPN menu (via the burger icon located at the top left of the app) and press on the Disconnect button.
Are 150MB of daily traffic tight for your use of Panda Mobile Security VPN? Would you like to be able to choose the nationality of the server to connect to? Then it would help if you considered subscribing to Panda VPN Premium.
To subscribe to Panda VPN Premium, launch the Panda Mobile Security app on your device, reach the VPN menu, and press the Upgrade to Premium button. Then choose which browser to open the plan subscription page with (e.g., Chrome or Firefox) and select one of the offers available between the monthly subscription for 7.99 euros/month or an annual subscription for 71.24 euros (on offer compared to 94.99 euros of the standard price). Both plans provide for automatic renewal but, at the same time, can be deactivated at any time without any constraint or cost.
Once you have chosen the plan that best suits you (by putting the checkmark next to the appropriate entry), scroll down the page and fill out the form with all your data: email address, name, surname, ZIP code, and country of residence.
After that, please choose a valid payment method between credit card and PayPal, enter its data and press it on the Next button. Verify, therefore, that the information entered is correct and proceed with the subscription of your Panda VPN Premium subscription following the on-screen directions.
