How to download Windows 10

Would you like to upgrade your computer to  Windows 10 but don’t know how to download this operating system? Do you need to format a PC with Windows 10 installed but can’t find the installation diskette of the latter? Don’t worry; I can help you with this guide on how to download Windows 10.

Believe it or not, it’s an effortless operation to perform and accomplish that, you don’t need to be a computer genius. In addition, you can do this in various ways: you can also choose what kind of installation media to create between DVD and USB stick. Finally, I also inform you that you can decide to download and install Windows 10 on Intel processor-based Macs if you need it, using dedicated solutions.

Now, however, let us put aside the preambles and get down to business. So be comfortable, take some time off just for yourself and start focusing on the following. I’m willing to bet that, in the end, you’ll agree with me that downloading Windows 10 was an absolute breeze. Meanwhile, I wish you good reading, and I give you great good luck with everything!

Minimum requirements

Before you get into the heart of the guide, explain how to download Windows 10, there is some preliminary information that I must to allow you to have clear ideas about it.

Let’s start with a fundamental premise: Downloading Windows 10 can be done from any computer and operating system, so you can also download Windows  10 to Windows 7, but the solutions available to do so vary as those factors change.

As far as installation is concerned, however, account must be taken  of the minimum requirements required to install and use the operating system, the following:

  •  Processor: 1 GHz or more powerful, 64-bit or 32-bit; in the latter case, the EAP support must be present.
  •  RAM: 2 GB (better if 4 GB) for 64-bit Windows 10, 1 GB (better if 2 GB) for 32-bit Windows 10.
  •  Disk space: At least 32 GB for 64-bit Windows 10, at least 16 GB for 32-bit Windows 10.
  •  Screen: resolution 800 x 600 pixels or higher; The recommended resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels, ideal for correctly displaying all operating system elements and avoiding unexpected behavior within applications.
  •  Video card: Any built-in or discrete video card with DirectX 9 or later supports, with WDDM 1.0 drivers.

If you don’t know how to see the computer’s technical specifications on which you want to install Windows 10, you can find out how to do this by consulting my guide on how to see pc components.

Also, keep in mind that the “clean” installation of Windows 10 involves formatting the disk, which is why if you intend to use the operating system on a PC on which a copy of Windows is already installed or in any case another OS, I suggest you back up your data, as I  explained in my guide on how to back up your PC so that you can access it even later. Updating your OS, on the other hand, does not imply data deletion.

Windows Price 10

To download Windows 10, use the appropriate tool made available by Microsoft, but you still have to activate the operating system by purchasing a  valid license.

Initially, Microsoft decided to offer  Windows 10 free to everyone who had a genuine copy of Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 on their PC. The promotion officially lasted one year (until  July 29, 2016), but in reality, some users managed to get a free license even after that; in any case, these are exceptional cases. To date, the system must be purchased.

Those who have not taken advantage of the promotion must therefore purchase Windows 10. The operating system is officially available on Microsoft’s website with list prices of 145 euros for Windows 10 Home,  259 euros for Windows 10 Pro, and  439 euros for Windows 10 Pro for Workstations. However, there is a way to save money and also a lot.

Some sites, such as  Mr. Key Shop, allowing you to buy original licenses 100% for Windows at much lower prices than official ones. How is this possible? Let me explain it to you immediately.

A company operates Mr Key Shopy with offices in Italy and England, which buys and resells unused licenses from companies and companies that have switched to the cloud or subscription services (in full compliance with European regulations on the subject).

In addition to saving money, Mr. Key Shop also offers the advantage of sending licenses in a few minutes by email (also great to avoid the environmental impact that the shipment of biological material would have), guarantee satisfaction or refund, and free shipping Italian assistance.

You can purchase a license for  Windows 10 Home,  Windows 10 Pro, or an upgrade license to Windows 10 (all editions are available at both 32 and 64 bits) on Mr. Key Shop simply by connecting to the links I just provided to you and adding the product of your interest to the cart. That said, you can continue with purchases (you might be interested in taking a look at licenses for the Office package, particularly for Office 2019, which is Microsoft’s most up-to-date package, and for antiviruses, also sold at very affordable prices), or whether to go to the checkout.

To conclude, sign in to the cart and choose whether to complete the transaction as a  guest or register an account. Many secure payment methods are accepted (e.g., PayPal, card, or Amazon Pay).

How to download Windows 10 for free

At this point, I would say that we are there: we can finally go and discover, in concrete terms,  how to download Windows 10 for free. As I anticipated, even if the operating system is subject to the possession of a regular license, you can download the Windows 10 image file at no cost and without necessarily having to own a product key in advance.

To do this, use the Media Creation Tool, a small software made available by Microsoft itself that allows you to download any version of Windows 10 in the form of ISO files and create an installation media with it. To get the media creation tool, connect to Microsoft’s website, press the  Download tool now button, and wait for the program download to complete.

When you’re done, open the .exe file you get, and in the window that’s shown to you on your desktop, click the  Yes button, then press the Accept Seat button at the bottom right, wait a few moments for the preliminary steps to complete, choose the Create installation media option (USB flash drive, DVD or ISO file) for another PC, and click the  Next button.

After you’ve completed the steps above, make sure that the language, edition (e.g., you can download Windows 10 Home, or you can decide to download Windows  10 Pro), and Windows 10 architecture conform to what you want to download. If not, remove the checkmark from the box next to the user options recommended for this PC and use drop-down menus located at the top to determine the options that are most agreeable to you.

Next, click the Next button again and select the  ISO Files option to indicate your intention to download the Windows 10 ISO file to burn to DVD. Now, click the Next button again,  specify the location on your PC where you want to save the image file, and press the Save button.

Then wait for the steps to download the Windows 10 ISO image to complete. You can follow the progress by using the progress report in the Media Creation Tool window. Anyway, try to bring patience; it may take some time as the program will download the Windows installation file from the Internet.

Once you’ve completed downloading your Windows 10 ISO, insert an empty  DVD into the burner connected to your PC (if you don’t already own one, you can read this purchase guide of mine to decide which product to orient yourself to) and also proceed with burning the image file, using the default Windows tool or through third-party programs specifically for the purpose, as I explained in detail in my guide explicitly dedicated to how to burn ISO.

How to download Windows 10 to USB

If you don’t have a burner at your disposal or, in any case, as an alternative to creating an operating system installation diskette, you can download Windows 10 to USB. Even then, you can use the  Media Creation Tool provided by Microsoft.

Before proceeding, however, get an empty and sufficiently large  Pendrive, from at least 8GB (if you do not already have one, you can consult this purchase guide of mine to decide which product to orient yourself towards) and connect the device to a free USB  port of the PC.

Once you have found the necessary “material,” download and start the media creation tool as I explained to you in the previous step, continue the procedure for downloading the Windows 10 ISO file that I have already proposed to you, and when you see the Choose media to use screen select the USB Flash Drive option and click on the  Next button.

Next, select the pen drive name (or drive letter), click the Next button once again, and wait for the Windows 10 setup file to complete the download. After that, Media Creation Tool will automatically copy the operating system files to the pen drive indicated by you so that you complete the whole procedure to download Windows 10 on a key.

How to install Windows 10

When you’re done downloading Windows 10, you can install the operating system on your PC (or any other compatible computer)  by booting the previously created installation media and following the wizard you’re being guided.

So if you want to install Windows 10 on your computer,  leave the installation media connected with Windows 10  and restart your computer. Instead, if you’re going to go and act on a different PC,  disconnect the installation media from the current location,  connect it to the computer you’re interested in and turn it on (or restart it, if it was already running).

At this point, you may be asked to press any button to boot from the diskette or Pendrive. If so, follow the instruction displayed on the screen and wait a few minutes for setup to copy all the necessary files into the memory. If this does not happen, you must intervene preventively on the BIOS settings, setting the installation media as the first boot device, proceeding as explained in my guide on accessing the BIOS.

When you see the screen appear to proceed with installing Windows 10, select the language, time and currency format, and keyboard layout using the appropriate drop-down menus, click the Next and Install buttons, and if prompted, enter your Windows product key (or click the Not  Now item, to provide it later).

Specify, therefore, the edition of Windows 10 that you are interested in installing; click again on the Next button. If you want to update the operating system without erasing the data (if possible) and the thing you are interested in selecting this option. If you plan to clean up the disk thoroughly, press the  Customize button to access the disk and partition management screen.

Using the window you are now viewing, format the partition on which you installed the operating system that is already on your computer, repeat the procedure described above with any other partitions/disks (if you think it appropriate), select the partition on which to install Windows 10 click the  Install button. If you want to delete all sections on the disc, delete them by selecting the appropriate entries and creating a new one to install the OS.

The next time you restart your PC, you’ll be shown the Windows 10 welcome screen and expected to set up your operating system to customize all the various settings, after which you’ll finally find yourself in front of your OS desktop and can start using your computer. How to download Windows 10 into Mac

You can also download Windows 10 to Mac, as long as you have a Mac with an Intel processor (on Macs with Apple Silicon chips, such as the M1 chip, the operation is not feasible). To proceed, then go to this web page from your Mac, select the Windows  10  option from the Select edition menu, and press the Confirmation button. It indicates the operating system’s language from the Select product language menu and clicks again on the  Confirm button.

Next, press the 64-bit Download button or the  32-bit Download button, depending on the version of Windows 10 you’re interested in, and wait for the ISO file to download. When you download successfully, you can burn the image file to a diskette, as I explained to you in my post about how to burn with Mac.

You can also decide to download and install the Microsoft home operating system on a separate partition of your Mac’s disk  (thus having the opportunity to determine which operating system to run when starting your computer) using the  Boot Camp Assistant utility. It is an application included “as standard” in all newer versions of macOS, which guides the user in installing Windows on Mac, providing to download from the Internet all the drivers necessary for the operation of the operating system of the Redmond company on Apple-branded computers, copying the Windows ISO image to a USB stick (if required) and going to create the helpful partition to finalize the installation on the disk. For more details, check out my post on how to install Windows on Mac for free.

Alternatively,  you can virtualize Windows 10 by running it on macOS (on Macs with Apple Silicon chips, you can only run the ARM version of Windows 10), turning to programs to create and run virtual machines, such as those I pointed out to you in my specific guide on programs to use Windows on Mac.
