Avira Phantom VPN Review

Whenever you’re in hotels, at the airport, or in a public place, do you avoid connecting to available Wi-Fi networks because you’re afraid that some attacker might pick up your data? Do you travel abroad often, and during your travels, can you never access your favorite streaming services due to geographical restrictions imposed by the latter? Then there is no doubt; you need a  VPN. A VPN, if I have never heard of it, is a virtual private network (hence the acronym VPN, i.e., Virtual Private Network) that creates a data tunnel between its device and the Internet so that the communications exchanged between its devices and the Network are encrypted – making it impossible for attackers to intercept them – and their geographical location is disguised. Using a VPN, the sites visited “see” the node’s location to which you are connected for the virtual Network (which can be located in various world countries) and not the real one of the device from which you are connecting.

Among the best VPN solutions currently “on the square,” I point out that Avira Phantom VPN that manages to encrypt all communications between the Internet and its devices (via AES-256 technology), prevents the interception of private communications, prevents cyber-criminals from taking over user data. In addition, it can hide the actual IP addresses of users and, therefore, allows you to browse anonymously on the Internet overcoming the geographical restrictions of streaming services or any other website. It’s free of charge up to 1GB of data traffic per month, Otherwise it is available with paid plans that, in exchange for a few euros per month or year, allow you to browse safely and anonymously without traffic limits, freely choosing between servers from 25 different countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Hong Kong, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Holland, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Hungary, and the USA.

Avira Phantom VPN is compatible with all major software platforms in the desktop and mobile industries: Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, and has no limits on the number of devices connected to the service simultaneously. If you want more information about it and want to find out in more detail how to make your online browsing safer using it, read on: find out everything below!

Before getting into the heart of this tutorial and discovering how Avira Phantom VPN works, It seems necessary to illustrate to you the minimum requirements needed for using the software and the list of devices compatible with the latter. How Avira Phantom VPN works

Now that you have precise requirements and pricing of Avira Phantom VPN, I would say take action and see, in more detail, how to use the service.

Creating an Avira account

Before downloading or buying Avira Phantom VPN, I highly recommend creating an Avira account: a free operation that will allow you to easily manage your Avira products and, in the case of Avira Phantom VPN Free, to take advantage of 500MB of extra traffic per month, for a total of 1GB/month.

To create an Avira account linked to this web page, make sure that you have the  Registered tab selected (otherwise you choose it) and fill out the form that is proposed to you by entering, in the appropriate text fields, your name, your email address and the password you want to use to access the account. After that, click on the  Register button, and you’re done. If you have a  Facebook account or  Google account, you can register through the latter by clicking on the appropriate controls, both located at the bottom.

Once registered, log in to your inbox, open the confirmation email you received from Avira, and click on the  Verify Account button contained within it your identity and activate the account.

First, click on the Avira Phantom VPN icon in the Windows notification area or macOS menu bar (next to the system clock) and verify that your  Avira account (top right) is listed in the pane that opens. If this is not the case, click the Register button and log in to your account. Once logged in, click the Protect Your Avira Phantom VPN Connection button to secure your connection using the server closest to your actual location.

Next to the name of each server, you will also find the number of ms (milliseconds) that this takes to respond. As a result, the smaller the ms shown, the higher the navigation speed through the server.

To adjust the advanced settings of Avira Phantom VPN, click on the gear icon located at the top right of the program pane: you can then choose whether to turn on the automatic connection to the VPN  for Wi-Fi networks,  whether to send diagnostic data,  whether to launch the program when the system starts and whether to block all Internet traffic if the VPN connection stops (option available only in the Pro version of the software).

Once your private browsing session is over, stop connecting to the VPN, click the Avira Phantom VPN icon again and press the Disconnect button in the tile displayed on the screen.

If, therefore, you use google’s browser as your favorite navigation program, connect to this page of the Chrome Web Store and first click the  Add button (top right) and then the  Add Extension button (always in the upper right) to install the Avira Phantom VPN extension.

When you’re done (we’ll have a few seconds), open a new tab in Chrome, click on the Avira Phantom VPN icon that appeared at the top right and press first on the Consent and Continue button, and then on Protect the connection to start connecting to the VPN.

If you have an Avira account and want to log in, click the little man icon in the Avira Phantom VPN add-on pane. If, on the other hand, you want to manually select the location of the VPN server to use (option available only to Pro users), click on the nearest location entry. Easy, isn’t it?
